Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a full time Director of Production. Founded in 1970, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by contemporary American and international playwrights. MTC produces a season of plays annually in Broadway’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off-Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.
The Director of Production reports directly to the Executive Director and General Manager and is instrumental in all aspects of MTC’s Production Department, Facilities and Capital Improvements. The Director of Production works directly with every play’s creative team, to facilitate the realization of their designs. The Director of Production is a member of MTC’s senior staff working closely on season planning, budget planning, and management of the Production staff. The Director of Production oversees the pre-production, production, and post-production process for MTC’s Season while adhering to established parameters, schedules and budgets. They also oversee facilities at all of MTC’s theatres, studios, and office spaces. Primary duties include managing all production elements and logistics, hiring and supervising union and non-union production staff, production payroll, accounting and budgeting, scheduling production and theatre resources, and operations and maintenance for all MTC facilities. This position works closely with MTC Staff, directors, designers, stage managers, technical crews, consultants and vendors. Critical for success in this position is the ability to work in concert with others, train and manage staff, and track and prioritize multiple short term and long term projects at once.
JOB DUTIES:
- Hire, train, supervise and manage all staff in the Production Management department.
- Hire and oversee all theatrical Production departments including Production department heads, Union Crews and non-union Crews across all MTC activities.
- Work with the Artistic Producing Team, Executive Producer, Finance Director and General Management team on season planning, scheduling and budgeting.
- Act as the liaison between the Production, Artistic and administrative departments.
- Create and implement all season scheduling related to production: season calendars, rehearsal and tech schedules, design deadlines, etc. Advise on most appropriate scheduling of events within the MTC calendar.
- Budget responsibility for all production areas including material, rental and labor budgets as well as creating facilities budgets in conjunction with the Director of Finance. This includes the preparation of the annual budgets for production areas.
- Collaborate with directors, designers and MTC Artistic Staff to ensure the artistic vision of each production remains within the available resources of time, budget, and personnel.
- Oversee and run and attend production related meetings as well as monitor the progress of each Production sub-department throughout the production process in concert with the Production Management Team.
- Approve use of production spaces and provide technical support for all special events, building rentals, and non-production activities with Friedman Theatre Manager or Landlords.
- Oversee logistical and budgetary requirements of facility operations.
- Process weekly payroll for theatrical Production staff.
- Work closely with Artistic and Development staff on the planning and production of the annual Fall Benefit, Spring Gala and other special events when production support or space is needed.
- Work closely with other members of the senior staff on long range planning in order to achieve the overall goals of the Manhattan Theatre Club.
- Maintain a healthy and safe and respectful working environment.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of Theatrical Production Management experience, excellent written and verbal communication skills, sharp eye for detail, exceptional organizational skills and the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects at once. A strong working knowledge of theatrical production procedures and practices including experience working with and managing theatrical production vendors is essential. Must possess strong computer skills especially proficiency with MS Office is required. Experience working in a union employment environment and familiarity with IATSE, USA and AEA agreements is preferred. Evening, weekend and early morning hours will be required. Occasional physically demanding work, such as lifting and moving equipment will be required.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Individual Giving is a senior member of MTC’s frontline fundraising team, primarily responsible for leading direct fundraising efforts to secure more than $5M in individual annual support. This role focuses on cultivating and soliciting individual gifts through the Patron Program, Artistic Director Circle, and Producing Partners while fostering strong donor relationships. Additionally, the Director will provide leadership and guidance to the Individual Giving team, supporting collaborative efforts to meet and exceed revenue goals.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects, independently driving the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes.
- Conduct at least 100 prospect meetings annually, ensuring consistent follow-up, communication, and activity tracking for each donor.
- Oversee the growth of MTC’s Patron ($3,000+) and Artistic Director Circle ($12,500+) programs, engaging with ~900 donor households annually.
- Work with Chief Development Officer to expand the Producing Partners program, securing major gifts of $50,000+ through targeted, production-specific campaigns.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight for the Individual Giving team, including the Major Gifts Officer, Individual Giving Manager, and Development Assistant, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering professional growth.
- Promote positive donor relations by ensuring timely and impactful stewardship across all levels of giving.
- Develop and execute fundraising strategies to achieve annual goals, including donor acquisition, upgrades, renewals, and benefit fulfillment.
- Collaborate with team members to create strategies for fundraising events such as MTC’s annual Benefit and Gala.
- Enhance Moves Management practices, prospecting, and cultivation strategies, with a focus on increasing donor engagement and identifying opportunities for growth.
- Partner with the Director of Development Operations and Strategy on data analysis, wealth screening, and projections to support targeted fundraising.
- Collaborate with Special Events staff to design and execute donor cultivation events, including pre-show dinners, receptions, and Opening Nights.
- Represent MTC at key events, strengthening relationships with trustees, donors, and prospects.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an accomplished fundraiser with demonstrated success in cultivating major gifts and leading individual giving programs, paired with experience managing and supporting teams.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in frontline fundraising, including securing 5- and 6-figure commitments.
- Proven ability to grow individual giving programs and achieve ambitious revenue goals.
- At least 2 years supervisory experience with a focus on mentoring, goal setting, and team performance.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with donors at all levels.
- Creativity, strategic thinking, and a results-oriented approach.
- Proficiency with MS Office and Tessitura (or similar CRM systems) and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Moves Management and donor cultivation best practices.
- Experience in the performing arts or cultural sector is preferred but not required.

Reporting to the Director of Development Operations and Strategy, the Membership Manager is responsible for growing and strengthening Manhattan Theatre Club’s membership giving programs; managing and conducting the technological and administrative functions of all membership outreach initiatives; and for collaborating with colleagues in Operations, Communications, Special Events and Individual Giving on the implementation of our annual fundraising efforts. The Membership Manager also oversees Development’s Ticketing and Customer Service Practices in collaboration with the Ticketing Services Department.
Responsibilities:
- In partnership with the Director of Development Operations and Strategy, develops plans to maintain and grow the Membership Giving Programs (Friends $100–3,000 and Patrons $3,000-$12,499).
- Set the calendar and devise strategies for Membership renewals, upgrades, and acquisitions.
- Collaborate with the Development Communications Manager to draft and execute multi-media Membership appeals.
- Collaborate with Development Operations to run lists and merge data.
- Conduct personal solicitation and follow-up efforts.
- Oversee Donor Welcome Communication process (including research, phone calls, emails, and seat notes).
- Oversee Development Team’s Policies and Procedures surrounding ticketing and the Patron Hotline/Concierge
- Train Development Team on Donor Ticket Protocols
- Collaborate with MTC’s Ticketing Team to ensure positive donor relations and stewardship
- Serve as one of the primary contacts for MTC’s donors, maintaining the high level of customer service delivered through MTC’s Patron Hotline and Concierge lines.
- Assists the team with managing relationships with hundreds of households, facilitating efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects.
- Represent MTC at special events as needed.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in fundraising and ticketing/sales.
- Familiarity with Tessitura (or a similar CRM)
- Experience working in a performing arts organization or the cultural sector a plus.
- A working knowledge of Basecamp, Microsoft Office, the New York City theatre community and non-profit structures a plus.
- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and public communication skills.
- Excellent judgment, time management, organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to set clear goals and priorities and manage time effectively; the ability to work independently and make decisions without close day-to-day supervision.

As a member of the Audience Services Team, the Audience Services Agent ensures a best-in-class experience to MTC subscribers and patrons by creating a welcoming and engaging experience via their respective hotlines, email, and in person. Working within MTC’s CRM, Tessitura to ensure that all membership and subscription data is captured and recorded accurately. As an agent, it is your shared responsibility to collaboratively ensure Audience Services continues to be an effectively working and cohesive team unit. Through implementation and execution of MTC’s internal ticketing operations, your service will emphasize and encourage our audience to return to MTC for years to come.
The position reports directly to the Director of Audience Services and has a deep understanding of MTC’s mission and a passion for its ideals.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a high level of communication with the Audience Services department and ensure that all Audience Services representatives do the same.
- Initiate a positive customer experience while communicating with a diverse constituent base.
- Assist with inquiries related to their MTC experience, such as directions, parking, restaurants, etc.
- Actively work to resolve customer complaints and problems before escalating to a senior Audience Services team member.
- Sell and process all ticket sales in Tessitura, including memberships, subscriptions, and process exchanges.
- Process sales accurately and efficiently within Tessitura following all department policies and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of all offers, promotions, and upcoming events.
- Update customer records accurately in the ticketing software, including correct spelling of name, mailing address, phone number and email address.
- Execute all correspondence with efficiency and precision for maximum success.
- Contribute to key aspects of annual campaign including renewal communications, order fulfillment, and seating.
- Complete other, relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Assistant Director (AD’s) generally begin work on the first day of rehearsal and will work full-time on that show until its opening night—roughly two months from start to finish, though this varies. Duties vary widely based on their personal strengths and the director they are paired with, but may include observership, dramaturgy, note-taking, and general rehearsal room support. All AD’s are asked to lead talkbacks after select previews.
MTC often participates in the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation Observership Program. This program allows early and mid-career directors the opportunity to observe the work of master directors and choreographers as they create new productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway and at leading regional theatres. The Stage Management Fellowship is a six-month intensive professional development opportunity for early-career professionals belonging to communities underrepresented in the theatre workforce who have theatrical stage management experience and training. The Fellow will be supervised by MTC’s Production Management team, and primarily will serve as a Production Assistant on three productions during the 2024-25 season: Eureka Day by Jonathan Spector and directed by Anna D. Shapiro; Dakar 2000 by Rajiv Joseph and directed by May Adrales; and, Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends devised by Cameron Mackintosh with musical staging and direction by Matthew Bourne and choreography by Stephen Mear.
The Fellow’s on-the-job training responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the stage management team from pre-production week through at least opening night
- Generating show-related paperwork
- Working with the stage management team to track props, costumes, and scene changes
- Gaining experience in production management and working in a producing organization when not engaged in rehearsals or performances
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a sharp eye for detail, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate and prioritize. A strong working knowledge of theatrical production procedures and practices and strong computer skills, especially proficiency with Microsoft Office, are required. Theatrical production experience is also required. Experience working in a union employment environment and familiarity with Actors Equity Association agreements is a plus. Evening, weekend and early morning hours will be required. Occasional physically demanding work, such as lifting and moving equipment, will be required.
This is a full-time non-exempt position beginning on or around October 15, 2024 and concluding on or around April 8, 2025. Compensation is $660.00 per week with benefits package including: choice between two group health plans with options for spousal, family and/or domestic partner coverage; basic life and long term disability insurance; paid time off; voluntary dental, vision and flex savings plans for healthcare, dependent care and commuting expenses.
