Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a full-time Production Manager. Founded in 1970, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by contemporary American and international playwrights. MTC produces a season of plays annually in Broadway’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off-Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.
The Production Manager reports directly to the Director of Production and is instrumental in all production needs at MTC’s theatres and office spaces. The PM will be based at the MTC offices and work in the theatre as the shows require. This position works closely with MTC Staff, directors, designers, stage managers, technical crews, consultants and vendors. Critical for success in this position is the ability to work in concert with others, and track and prioritize multiple short term and long-term projects at once. MTC is looking for someone with a strong background in technical theatre.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee pre-production, shop bids, and builds. Oversee load ins, tech, and load outs.
- Ensure designer and shop drawings are checked for accuracy and completeness
- Create staffing and trucking calendars
- Manage running shows in concert with the production team
- Audit and submit weekly payroll for theatre crews
- Manage and administer show budgets
- Create Budgets for one-off events and rentals
- Support the rehearsal process with check-ins and changes
- Schedule and run production meetings
- Create technical specification documents and bid sheets
- Work with local authorities to ensure shows remain compliant (FDNY, DOB, etc)
- Maintain file management of show paperwork and MTC paperwork
- Join weekly staff meetings and update the company on status of shows
- Partner with rentals of theatre spaces when appropriate to ensure their compliance with MTC rules and regulations.
- Participate in facilities and maintenance needs as determined by DoP or show needs.
Requirements:
- Experience and background working in theater at a high level, running and maintaining shows; Experience on a Broadway level is preferred
- Minimum 4 years of Production Management or similar experience demonstrating responsibilities
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Vectorworks
- Late nights and Weekend work are required
- Experience managing people and setting a strong example in the workplace
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability and willingness to always exercise professional courtesy and discretion, and maintain confidentiality as required
- Strong attention to detail, flexibility, and resourcefulness
- Experience, ability, and commitment to work with a diverse community of individuals and teams

Basic Job Function
This position will report to the Associate Artistic Director (AAD) and will be actively involved in reading and evaluating scripts for programming consideration; identifying and cultivating relationships with new artists; supporting the development of new work through the Artistic Development office’s robust array of commissioning programs, developmental workshops, artistic initiatives, and more; participating in season planning; tracking readings and productions happening locally, nationally and internationally; and maintaining the in-and-out flow of scripts through the office.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Associate will be responsible for identifying and developing relationships with emerging and established artists whose work merits consideration for future development, commission, production, and other programming at MTC and will actively contribute to programming conversations.
The Associate will read and evaluate 3-5 scripts per week, and attend productions and readings in NYC and sometimes nationally, to scout and identify talent and support artists in MTC’s orbit.
The Associate will track readings and productions happening at peer theatres in NYC, nationally, and internationally, and help in the process of soliciting material and responding to invitations that come through the office.
The Associate will be the primary point person in terms of scheduling and overseeing all MTC readings and workshops planned throughout the year, and will maintain the office’s readings budget. The Associate will also help support the producing of the Ted Snowdon Reading Series each spring and offer dramaturgical support to the plays as needed.
As the Sloan Project Administrator, the Associate will play a large role in administering the Sloan commissioning program and will actively solicit Sloan proposals from writers of interest, draft language for Sloan grants and reports, coordinate the annual Sloan Advisory panel meeting, connect artists with scientific advisors as needed, and work closely with Sloan commissioned-artists to develop their plays.
The Associate will collaborate with the Development and Marketing departments to provide language for grants, award nominations, press releases, Playbills, and more when applicable.
The Associate will assign the Literary Trainee certain tasks and oversee the execution of some of their duties.
The Associate’s other administrative tasks will include, but not be limited to: managing written and phone correspondence for the office, departmental schedules, and expenses, as well as overseeing and maintaining MTC’s script database and tracking calendars on AirTable.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
At minimum three years of literary or relevant experience.
A strong understanding of MTC’s artistic point of view, particularly as represented in recent programming, and a knowledge of the new play and musical landscape, and the artistic process of developing and producing new work for the stage.
A sharp eye for identifying emerging talent and a finger on the pulse of contemporary playwriting and how the work exists in relationship with MTC and its programming and artistic mission.
A proactive mindset that appreciates that tasks will range from big picture to daily operations and that all tasks are important to the function of the office.
A proclivity for organization and precision, a strong sense of responsibility, and a knack for independent problem-solving.
An understanding of how to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines within the context of MTC’s workflow.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
An agility within a rapidly-changing field and comfort with pivoting quickly as organizational needs shift.
An ability to think independently while also collaborating meaningfully with administrative colleagues and artists.
Comprehensive knowledge of MSWord, Excel and Outlook and an ability to navigate Google Suite and AirTable is preferred.

This person will be responsible for programming and running two productions in Stage One per season and providing technical support for these productions as well as events in the MTC spaces. NYCC Stage One is a 300-seat venue.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Production Electrician in the supervision of the load in and strike crews for each production.
- Reading light plots, hanging lights, focusing, programming the light board, running the shows, show maintenance, general maintenance, and keeping equipment inventories.
- A strong background in programming ETC boards is highly preferred; primary light board is an ETC Gio @5.
- Moving lights, LED elements, tracking, and presets are used often.
- Additional support for the production in all fields of technical theater.
Requirements:
- 2-3 years of experience as a light board operator/programmer
- Knowledge of current lighting equipment and lighting practices
- Ability to program lights for ETC console
- Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and Lightwright
- Ability to work in a detailed and organized manner, resourceful and flexible

- Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of house sound plot, gear and inventory
- Reports to MTC Production Management for the season and to Production Audio for load ins and load outs
- Duties shall include but not be limited to: reading a system flow and sound plot; knowledgably troubleshooting basic sound issues on speakers, amps and microphones; programming the sound board; running the shows; show maintenance; general maintenance; and upkeep of equipment inventories.
- A strong background in Meyer Compass and D&B R1 Galileo Galaxy 816, and proficiency with the Yamaha line of consoles
- Knowledge of Clear-com setup and distribution, both Helixnet and analog
- Confidence and basic knowledge of video distribution, primarily for SM video shots and enhanced performances, and assisting with Projections on productions that merit it
- Additional support for the production in all fields of technical theater
- While this job is primarily focused on the operation of sound duties, there may be occasions where you will be asked to assist other departments as needed.
- Will serve as needed in either sound or other role during any rental periods that may arise.
Requirements:
- 2-3 years experience sound board operator/programmer
- Knowledge of current sound equipment and practices
- Ability to program sound on a Yamaha CL5
- Proficient computer skills in QLab 5 and Microsoft Office, and confidence in troubleshooting Audinate’s Dante
- Implementation of MIDI control on a case-by-case basis
- Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a detailed and organized manner, resourceful and flexible

Additionally, the Fellow will have the opportunity to connect with staff members from MTC’s Artistic Production, General Management, and Production Management offices, as well as the IATSE Production Crew. As a result of this experience, the Fellow will learn how lighting design for Broadway is created and implemented, while growing their professional network and receiving personal mentorship.
The ideal candidate is an early career lighting designer with professional credits, but who has not yet worked on a Broadway production. They possess a comprehensive grasp of the production process through practical experiences on a semi-professional or professional level, and are looking to elevate that knowledge and apply their skill set at the Broadway scale. They are proactive and eager to seek answers and meaningful tasks that will lead to a deepened understanding of the lighting design process and its implementation, as well as current standards and practices for the creation of Broadway productions. Their schedules are sufficiently flexible to accommodate observation dates and times during the months of August and September 2026.
The Fellowship time commitment is approximately 75 hours over 4-5 weeks. Specific observation dates and times are flexible. They will be determined by the Fellow and Stacey Derosier based upon the School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play production schedule. Compensation is $3,000.

Tony Award-Winning Designer David Zinn and Manhattan Theatre Club have partnered to host a dual Scenic-Costume Design Fellowship for an early career designer on the upcoming Broadway production of Clifford Odet’s AWAKE AND SING!
David Zinn (Set and Costume Designer) is a Tony Award-winning designer. On Broadway he has designed scenery for Becky Shaw, Liberation, Stereophonic, Jaja’s African Hair Braiding, Kimberly Akimbo, The Minutes, Diana, and The Humans; as well as sets and costumes for Enemy of the People, The Spongebob Musical, Choir Boy, The Boys in the Band, and Fun Home. Also, in New York, his designs have been seen at Playwrights Horizons, MTC, New York Theater Workshop, The Shed, The Vineyard, Second Stage, the Public, and Target Margin Theater. In the UK: West End, National Theatre, Young Vic. Also Berlin Staatsoper and Theater Basel. He has received Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critic’s Circle, Hewes and Obie Awards for his work.

As a result of this experience, the Fellow will learn how designs for Broadway are created and implemented, and specifically the artistic and logistical balancing act of designing the scenery and costumes for a production, all while growing their professional network and receiving personal mentorship.
The ideal candidate is an early career multi-disciplinary designer of sets and costumes, with professional credits, but who has not yet worked on a Broadway production. They possess a comprehensive grasp of the production process through practical experiences on a semi-professional or professional level, and are looking to elevate that knowledge and apply their skill set at the Broadway scale. They are proactive and eager to seek answers and meaningful tasks that will lead to a deepened understanding of the design process and its implementation, as well as current standards and practices for the creation of Broadway productions. Their schedules are sufficiently flexible to accommodate observation dates and times during the months leading up to and including December 2026.
The Fellowship time commitment is approximately 90 hours beginning as early as August 3, 2026 and running through January 7, 2027. Specific observation dates and times are flexible and will be determined by the Fellow and David Zinn based upon design deadlines, workflow, and the production schedule. Compensation is $3,600.

Assistant Director (AD’s) generally begin work on the first day of rehearsal and will work full-time on that show until its opening night—roughly two months from start to finish, though this varies. Duties vary widely based on their personal strengths and the director they are paired with, but may include observership, dramaturgy, note-taking, and general rehearsal room support. All AD’s are asked to lead talkbacks after select previews.
MTC often participates in the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation Observership Program. This program allows early and mid-career directors the opportunity to observe the work of master directors and choreographers as they create new productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway and at leading regional theatres.
